HCMC – The Ministry of Home Affairs has rejected information circulating on social media claiming that working days would be rearranged to allow a continuous nine-day holiday from April 25 to May 3, 2026, combining the Hung Kings’ death anniversary with the Reunification Day–International Labor Day holiday.
A representative of the Employment Department under the ministry said the number of public holiday days will follow the provisions of the Labor Code, and there is currently no proposal to swap working days to extend the holiday period as reported online.
Under the Labor Code, employees are entitled to one day off for the Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary Day (the 10th day of the third lunar month). In 2026, this date falls on Sunday, April 26. As it coincides with a weekly day off, employees will receive a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27. Including the weekend, the holiday may last three consecutive days from Saturday, April 25, to Monday, April 27.
The Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) in 2026 fall on Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1. For employees who do not work on Saturdays, the break may last four consecutive days from April 30 to May 3, including the weekend.
As the two holiday periods are close to each other, employees will return to work for two days after the Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary Day before taking the Reunification Day–International Labor Day break. The ministry confirmed there will be no nine-day continuous holiday as rumored on social media.
