HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has directed relevant units to swiftly deploy the smart transport system, automated toll collection, and additional utility services on the North-South Expressway.

In a just-issued directive, the ministry calls for expediting investment in smart traffic management, automated toll collection, vehicle weight control, and rest areas along the North-South Expressway.

According to the directive, despite numerous efforts in management, the progress of investing in traffic management systems on the expy still faces many challenges.

The primary reasons are administrative hurdles, funding issues, and the construction capacity of contractors. Such challenges affect service quality, jeopardize traffic safety, and impede the socio-economic development of regional areas.

To swiftly complete the remaining components and ensure the seamless operation of the entire project, the ministry has instructed project management boards to rigorously follow the directives.

The directors of these boards are responsible for overseeing progress, ensuring the quality of components such as smart traffic management, automated toll collection, and vehicle weight control. They must also proactively resolve issues and report the results of accountability checks, explaining the causes of delays by February 10.

The ministry also instructed the directors of the project management boards to collaborate with local authorities to complete land clearance for 21 rest areas in February, expedite procedures, begin work on eight rest areas, and select investors for the remaining 13 rest stops.

They must ensure that essential services are completed before the component projects are operational, especially for projects finished before April 30, the directive said.

It also instructed the Vietnam Expressway Department to work with the project management boards, investors, and local authorities to expedite land clearance, address issues in a timely manner, and issue construction permits while ensuring legal compliance and shortening timelines to meet project deadlines.
