HCMC – Provinces in southern Vietnam are rapidly expanding their expressway networks, with plans to reach 935 km by 2026 to enhance regional connectivity and drive economic growth, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Before 2021, the southern region had only 91 km of expressway. This figure has now increased to 223 km with the completion of key roads such as Trung Luong–My Thuan, My Thuan–Can Tho, and Phan Thiet–Dau Giay.

Ongoing projects, including the HCMC Beltway No.3, Ben Luc–Long Thanh, Bien Hoa–Vung Tau, and Can Tho–Ca Mau expressways, are expected to add another 712 km to the total. By 2030, the region’s expressway infrastructure will be largely completed to meet increasing transportation demands.

A series of new expressway projects are also planned for the 2026–2030 period, including Gia Nghia–Chon Thanh, Dau Giay–Tan Phu–Bao Loc–Lien Khuong, and HCMC–Moc Bai. Some of these projects have secured funding, while others are undergoing investment review.

In Lam Dong Province, two key expressway projects — Tan Phu–Bao Loc and Bao Loc–Lien Khuong — are set to break ground before April 30. These projects will form a 200-km expressway connecting Dalat to HCMC, significantly improving travel between the Central Highlands and the southern region.

The Tan Phu–Bao Loc project, led by Deo Ca Group JSC, is finalizing necessary documentation, while FUTA Group is working on the Bao Loc–Lien Khuong section.

Deputy Director of the Lam Dong Transportation Project Management Board, Vo Ngoc Minh Phat, said efforts are underway to address obstacles and ensure construction starts on schedule.

However, both projects face challenges. High construction costs mean investors may take over 20 years to recover their investments, making them less attractive. Additionally, the Tan Phu–Bao Loc project overlaps with a 224-hectare bauxite mining area, requiring further approval from local authorities.

These expressways are part of the larger Dau Giay–Lien Khuong corridor, which will fully connect Dalat with HCMC and other southeastern provinces via expressway.

Lam Dong authorities are pushing to complete the projects by the fourth quarter of 2027, aiming to unlock the province’s economic potential and strengthen its links to the southern region.
