Since setting its foothold in Vietnam, the Canadian life insurance company Sun Life has aligned its business philosophy with the purpose of helping people to achieve lifetime financial security and live a healthier life, especially for those who are underprivileged..
From its short-term activities to improve the community health to large-scale programs being launched throughout Vietnam over many years, Sun Life Vietnam has been sticking to its goal of steadily creating minor changes in the mindset of local people about healthcare, so as to pave the way for building a more civilized and healthier community.
Cultivating healthy habits for healthier generations
With an aim to provide school children with plenty of opportunities to improve their physical wellness as well as to unlock their potential in sports, Sun Life Vietnam rolled out a program in which the life insurer presented basketball hoops to schools nationwide.
The donation of basketball hoops and relevant sports equipment is one of the major programs that Sun Life Vietnam has been implementing in many years in a bid to raise public awareness about healthcare protection.
Sun Life Vietnam launched the basketball hoops donation program in 2018 and has received an encouraging response.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, the life insurer has been presenting 100 basketball poles and 500 basketballs to 50 schools in 33 provinces and cities in the country.
Five years after the program launch, Sun Life has donated 442 basketball hoops and 2,210 basketballs to 225 schools across the country, providing school children with better opportunities to do physical exercises regularly.
Aside from its efforts to encourage school children to stay fit, Sun Life Vietnam has been also working toward its goal of improving the physique of future generations, training the mind, skills, self-discipline, and teamwork spirit among school children in order to develop their passion for sports and a healthy lifestyle.
The Canadian insurer also invited professional basketball athletes to give school children instructions and tactics to play basketball and maintain their exercise habits.
Besides cultivating healthy habits through playing basketball at school, Sun Life has organized many other physical activities for the community. Among them, the insurer annually holds its annual race Sun Life Resolution Run to raise public awareness about the importance of building a healthy lifestyle to prevent diabetes.
For a sustainable community
Apart from its corporate social responsibility initiatives to promote a healthy lifestyle, Sun Life Vietnam regularly organizes other social programs with a focus on disadvantaged people.
Since 2019, Sun Life Vietnam has launched community health projects and a series of events mostly for women to equip them with knowledge in finance. The events were held in various provinces and cities, enabling local women to acquire basic knowledge about personal and family financial management, thereby helping them become more self-confident and build a more stable and happier life.
When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out two years ago, Sun Life Vietnam also swiftly launched activities to support the community where it operates.
The insurer made donations to the Vietnamese Government’s Covid vaccination fund and through UNICEF to assist with the fight against Covid-19, including strengthening the cold storage chain for vaccine preservation, improving the diagnosis and medical treatment capacity among healthcare employees, ensuring the equitable rollout of vaccination, and promoting the importance of Covid vaccination. Through the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the CARE International in Vietnam, the insurer made Covid-related donations by giving vouchers to thousands of local households.
The insurer pays much care to the environment as well. It launched a program called “One e-contract signed, one tree planted”. Under the program, if its client agrees to receive an e-contract instead of a paper one, Sun Life Vietnam will tap its budget saved from the printing and transporting of paper contracts to donate to the Gaia Nature Reserve to plant trees at the Xuan Lien Nature Reserve in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa.
In the upcoming time, Sun Life Vietnam will organize an exhibition on recycling waste. Through this initiative, the insurer expects that its clients and community will join hands to reduce waste by recycling products and using reusable items for an eco-friendly and sustainable world.
