HCMC – The Ministry of Transport (MOT) is urging local authorities to expedite work on the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway project, which has experienced significant delays due to slow site clearance efforts.
Started in mid-June, construction of the 53.7-kilometer expressway linking the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau has been hindered by sluggish work on the ongoing site clearance phase.
As of now, only 6% of the designated cleared area for component section one of the project in Dong Nai Province has been handed over to local constructors. Meanwhile, no cleared sites have been allocated for component section two.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, authorities have completed 78% of the site clearance necessary for the construction of component section three.
The MOT is calling for close collaboration among relevant authorities to overcome the obstacles impeding the project’s progress. Additionally, it has warned that the escalating costs associated with the site clearance phase might necessitate a future investment reassessment.
The initial phase of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway project costs an investment of nearly VND18,000 billion, financed through the national budget.
The four-lane expressway is slated to be put into operation in 2026, with 34 kilometers running in Dong Nai Province and 19.7 kilometers in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
