HCMC – Gia Binh International Airport in the northern province of Bac Ninh is set to become a dual-use, smart, and green aviation hub, integrated with a “next-generation” Free Trade Zone (FTZ) to drive double-digit growth for the Red River Delta region.
This strategic vision was directed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chính during his field inspection of the project in the province last weekend. The PM emphasized that the project whose capital of VND196 trillion must serve as a gateway connecting the economic growth poles of Hanoi, Haiphong, and Quang Ninh.
Spanning nearly 1,900 hectares, the airport is designed to meet international five-star standards. During the initial phase through 2030, the project will prioritize key infrastructure and logistics facilities, specifically aiming to serve the 2027 APEC Summit. The prime minister also underscored that the development of an “aviation economy” and an open, globally integrated FTZ is a core strategy to create a new modern development space for the capital region.
To ensure the project remains on schedule, the PM ordered a hard working spirit, with Bac Ninh Province required to complete the first phase site clearance by April 30 this year. He also instructed the synchronization of regional transport links, including the Hanoi-Gia Binh expressway and Beltway 4, to ensure the entire airport ecosystem is operational in time for major international events.
