Nestled along the border of Vietnam’s Cao Bang Province and China’s Guangxi Province, the Ban Gioc Waterfalls present a mesmerizing natural spectacle. These falls stand approximately 70 meters tall, 60 meters deep, and span an impressive 300 meters in width, featuring three distinct levels with cascades of varying sizes, each contributing to the breathtaking panorama.
The best time to visit these waterfalls is from September to December when they are at their most magnificent. During this period, known as the water pouring season, the once clear blue waters transform into a stunning jade hue. As the falls cascade from above, they create a delicate mist that hovers above the lake’s surface. When the sunlight pierces through, it produces captivating multi-colored rainbows that dance in the mist.
From September 15, 2023, to September 14, 2024, a pilot tourism program will allow both Chinese and Vietnamese tourists to cross the border and experience the beauty of Ban Gioc Waterfalls and China’s Detian Waterfalls on the opposite side. Visitors can explore this natural wonder within a five-hour window, although overnight stays are not permitted.
