HCMC vice chair picked as deputy minister of trade

HCMC – Phan Thi Thang, vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Committee for the 2021-2026 term, has been appointed deputy minister of Industry and Trade, with effect from December 19, by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The ministry is currently led by Nguyen Hong Dien, with five deputy ministers comprising Tran Quoc Khanh, Do Thang Hai, Dang Hoang An, Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan and Phan Thi Thang.

Thang is the only female deputy head of the ministry. The previous female deputy head was Ho Thi Kim Thoa, who resigned in 2017.

Thang, a Long An Province native, had held various key posts, such as vice chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Binh Tan District in HCMC, deputy head, and then head of the HCMC Department of Finance between 2013 and 2019.

The 46-year-old was elected vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Council in July 2019 and later chosen as vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Committee in December 2020.
