HCMC – Le Anh Xuan, the owner of An Phu Karaoke, where a fire broke out and killed 32 people early last week in the southern province of Binh Duong, has been prosecuted and detained for allegedly violating fire safety regulations.

The Binh Duong People’s Procuracy has passed a decision to press charges against Xuan, a 42-year-old resident of Thu Duc City in HCMC, said the provincial Police Department last evening, September 16.

The fatal fire broke out at around 20:15 on September 6 at An Phu Karaoke in An Phu Ward, Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province.

Local firefighters were swiftly dispatched to the scene of the incident and managed to rescue 22 people.

By 21:30 the same day, the fire was brought under control.

The forces continued the rescue operations until the following afternoon. They recovered 32 bodies, while 17 persons were injured after attempting to escape the fire.

The incident was the deadliest fire in Binh Duong so far.

Yesterday, a working team led by Nguyen Thanh Diep, deputy director of the Binh Duong Police Department, visited and offered condolences to the bereaved families in Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and HCMC.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Binh Duong leaders had visited and offered support to the families whose relatives were injured or killed in the deadly fire.
