Phu Chiem Village in Dien Phuong Commune, Dien Ban District, Quang Nam Province, is where the popular Quang-style noodle soup was first created. And where better to taste this specialty than the place where it was born.

According to historical documents, the noodle soup was a popular dish hundreds of years ago, favored by foreign traders in Hoi An Port on the Thu Bon River.

It is not uncommon to see street vendors selling the Quang-style noodle soup in Phu Chiem. An old street vendor who has been serving this specialty to locals and visitors for years now says it’s important to add good noodles made from rice harvested in the fields along the Thu Bon River.

A bowl of the Quang-style noodle soup is topped with some slices of meat, shrimps caught from the fields and quail eggs, before the broth is added. The dish is also served with fresh herbs and crispy rice papers.

Sometimes, local cooks add slices of fish, chicken or beef to enhance the flavor of the specialty.

In Phu Chiem, diners pay only VND15,000 for a bowl of Quang-style noodle soup. Nearly 200 villagers, most of them women, earn their living by selling this dish.
