HCMC – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has approved a plan to bolster its tourism sector by promoting new flight routes connecting Hue City and key tourist destinations in Vietnam, East Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Hue aims to open at least one international flight route and operate charter flights between 2024 and 2025. This initiative aims to maximize the capacity of Phu Bai International Airport’s Terminal 2, which has an annual passenger handling capacity of five million.
The expansion of flight routes is expected to meet increasing demand for air travel, particularly during peak tourist seasons and major events in Hue. By broadening its flight network, the province will be able to attract tourists from new markets, boost tourism revenue, and foster tourism-related services.
A direct weekly flight from Taiwan to Hue has already been secured, set to begin in late September. Provincial authorities are working with Taiwanese partners to increase the frequency of these flights, targeting between 140 and 260 flights per year.
Other international routes, including Hue-Kunming (China), Hue-Seoul (South Korea), and Hue-Taipei (Taiwan), have been introduced following the opening in April 2023 of Phu Bai International Airport’s Terminal 2.
